A Deep Dive into Lenzing™ Fibers: How NA-KD Uses Verified Wood-Based Materials

By Eva Vilchez Garrido & Stephanie Yeow
At NA-KD, we work with Lenzing™ fibers to bring more transparency to collections, from certified wood sources to verified garments.

Where do Lenzing™ fibers come from and what makes them different?

When it comes to choosing materials, it’s important to understand where they come from and how they are made. We have previously mentioned certified materials in previous articles. It is essential to understand that certified materials, like organic cotton or recycled fibers, are verified through third party standards that track the entire journey of the fiber, while Lenzing™ fibers use certified wood sources and verified production processes, but rely on their own branded fiber licenses for traceability rather than external full supply chain certifications.

Lenzing™ fibers, such as TENCEL™ Lyocell and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose, are made from wood. But not just any wood, it comes from responsibly managed forests that are certified by independent organizations like FSC® or PEFC, ensuring they meet strict environmental standards.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose also carries something called the EU Ecolabel. This is a label given to products that meet high environmental standards — including lower water use and fewer emissions during production, compared to traditional viscose.
Lenzing™ also uses special production processes. For example, they reuse water and solvents in their factories instead of letting them go to waste. They also make sure to use every part of the wood, leaving as little waste as possible. These methods allow their fibers to break down under industrial composting conditions, making them different from many other materials.

How NA-KD ensures these fibers are verified

At NA-KD, we always require proof that the materials we use are authentic. When we include LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose or TENCEL™ Lyocell in our clothes, we ask our suppliers to provide official documents from Lenzing™. These are called Certification Confirmation Letter. These documents prove that the fibers in our clothes are authentic and come from the certified wood sources we described earlier. They also help us track the material throughout the entire production process, from the wood, to the fiber, to the finished fabric, and finally to your garment. We only talk about these fibers in our product descriptions and labels if we have this verified documentation. You’ll also find official Lenzing™ swing tags on many of our garments, these tags explain exactly where the fiber comes from and what makes it different from conventional options.

Why verified materials matter at NA-KD

Lenzing™ works closely with different parts of the fashion industry, from forest managers to fabric producers and brands like NA-KD. This helps ensure that their materials are fully verified and traceable. By working with Lenzing™ and asking for proof at every step, we can offer garments that are made with wood based materials that follow strict sourcing and production standards. This is how we bring more clarity and transparency to the clothes you find at NA-KD.
