DENIM & Sustainability
PARTNERS & PRODUCTION
In 2022, 90% of all our denim production came from two primary producers; Kipas and Chantuque. Read more on what they do and their targets for a more sustainable textile production, below.
KIPAS
Kipaş Holding was founded by two families in Kahramanmaraş, in 1984. Today, with more than 35 years of experience, 6 different industries divided over 25 factories and more than 10.000 employees, Kipaş is one of the leading companies in the region and Turkey. Their textiles branch (Kipaş Textiles) is the largest fully integrated production facility in Europe, supplying yarns, fabric and ready-made garments to leading companies around the world. Kipaş's vision is to lead the change towards circular and renewable industries while being a fair and reliable company, and they strive to use their size and scale to catalyse systemic changes across their operations, entire value chain, and the industry. Fabrics for NA-KD's denim collections are produced in the Kahramanmaraş facilities, and the final production (cut-and-sew) takes place in the sister facility located in Istanbul, Bozkurt Konfeksiyon Sanayi A.S. (employing approx. 280 workers).
Water usage
  • Kipas recycle 100% of their waste during production. The waste is later used as pre-consumer recycled cotton.
  • Their water management system is called the Blue Scale, and it allows them to recycle water during production. In 2019, 27% of the used water was recycled.
  • Kipas’ target is to recycle 100% of their production water by 2025.
Energy management
  • Since 2019, 100% of Kipas’ energy comes from their own renewable resources.
  • Kipa’s goal is to be carbon neutral by 2025.
  • Half a million trees will be planted to neutralise Kipas’ carbon footprint.
  • Kipas use carbon dioxide to neutralise the wastewater in the facility.
CHANTUQUE
Chantuque (ŞANTUK TEKSTIL SAN VE TIC A.Ş.) was founded in 2004. Starting off, the company brought together a small but passionate team and has since then grown into the organisation it is today, employing around 4000 in total across its production units and offices. Chantuque invests in innovative technologies that have a lower impact on the environment and has established a cutting edge in-house, sustainable washing unit in Malatya, Turkey. The final production (cut-and-sew) for NA-KD's denim collections takes place in the Chantuque's Istanbul facility, which employs approx. 550 workers.
WASTE
  • Chantuque is renewing 100% of their waste fabrics. The offcuts are shredded and recycled into fiber ready to be spun and woven into new fabrics.
  • 100% of the poly garment bags are to be replaced with biodegradable bags, which is eliminating 12 million plastic bags per year.
DYE
  • Chantuque is using clay dye for selected styles, which eliminates the use of metal mordants.
